I suggest you start from a complete tarball rather than from
a developer setup.  Then you can run configure and not
autogen.sh.  Section "2.1. Create configure program"
is not necessary if configure is already there.

As to your exact problem below, it looks to me like that
because libtoolize and aclocal are in different prefixes/dirs,
the macros that libtoolize provdes are not picked up by aclocal.
You can probably do this with aclocal -I /opt/sfw/share/aclocal
(I'm guessing the path) or with:

  $ ACLOCAL="aclocal -I share/aclocal" ./autogen.sh

but really, just use a tarball and follow the normal path.
